Before you request the exam

  • Be a current CAP cadet who has earned the General Ira C. Eaker Award.
  • Own and properly wear a CAP uniform, and be able to recite the Cadet Oath from memory.
  • If you are 18 or older, have current Cadet Protection training.
  • Get squadron and wing commander approval with CAPF 60-87, including your proposed date, location and attempt number. Plan on at least two weeks before you test.

You have three attempts. CAP reports that only 21 percent of candidates passed all four parts on the first try (January 2020 to April 2026), and most recipients finish on their second or third attempt. Don’t let a first try discourage you.
