About the award and TSA
What is the Spaatz Award?
The General Carl A. Spaatz Award is Civil Air Patrol’s highest cadet achievement. Cadets who complete the full Cadet Program and pass a four-part exam (leadership, aerospace, a character essay and physical fitness) are promoted to cadet colonel. Fewer than one-half of one percent of CAP cadets earn it.
What is The Spaatz Association?
The Spaatz Association, Inc. (TSA) is the alumni network for recipients of Civil Air Patrol’s General Carl A. Spaatz Award. We serve Spaatzen and develop leaders through scholarships, grants, recognition and events.
What is TSA’s nonprofit status?
TSA is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, EIN 63-1183842.
Are my donations or sponsorships tax-deductible?
Yes, to the extent allowed by federal and state law, less the value of any benefits you receive. Membership dues are deductible on the same basis. Please talk with your own tax adviser about your situation.
Who can be a member?
Recipients of the Spaatz Award and of the historic Cadet Certificate of Proficiency. The Board also recognizes a small number of Honorary Spaatzen.
Is TSA part of Civil Air Patrol?
No. TSA is an independent nonprofit. We are a constitutionally bound supporter of Civil Air Patrol, made up entirely of CAP alumni.
